A man and his dog were walking along a road.
When they passed close to a huge tree, a flash of lightning struck them, both of them.
But the man did not notice that they had already left this world, and continued to wander with his animal.
"Sometimes the dead need some time to become aware of their new situation..."
The hike was very long, leading uphill and downhill, the sun was burning, and they were sweaty and thirsty. At a bend in the road, they saw a beautiful marble gate leading to a square paved with gold, with a fountain in the middle from which crystal clear water flowed.
The wanderer turned to the man guarding the gate.

"Good afternoon."
"Good day," the guard replied.
"A beautiful place this is, what is it called?"
"This is heaven."
"How fortunate that we have arrived in heaven, for we are very thirsty."
"You are welcome to come in and drink all the water you want," the guard said, pointing to the fountain.
"My dog is thirsty, too."
"I'm sorry," the guard said.
"Animals are not allowed in."
The man was disappointed because his thirst was great, but he did not want to drink alone.
He thanked the guard and moved on.
After wandering uphill for a long time, they came to a place with an old gate that opened onto a tree-lined path of tamped earth.
In the shade of one of the trees, a man lay with his hat tucked into his forehead, seeming to sleep.

"Good afternoon," said the walker.
The man nodded.
"We are very thirsty, my dog and I."
"There among the stones is a spring," the man said, pointing to the spot.
"You may drink as you wish."
The man and the dog went to the spring and quenched their thirst.
Again the wanderer gave thanks.
"Come again when you wish," the man replied.
"By the way, what is the name of this place?"
"Heaven."
"Heaven?
But the guard at the marble gate told me that was where heaven was."
"That wasn't heaven, that was hell."
The wanderer was confused.
"You should forbid them to use your name! This false information will cause a lot of confusion!"

"Absolutely not. In truth, they're doing us a big favor. Because that's where everyone who manages to abandon their best friends stays," the guard replied to him....
